High blood glucose (hyperglycemia)
Blood glucose level higher than target. Signs and symp-
toms include: increased thirst, frequent urination, blurred
vision and high BG reading upon testing. See the table at
right and on the following pages for some possible causes
of high blood glucose.
Treatment: check your BG level immediately and, if re-
quired, deliver a Correction bolus. If very high (above
250 mg/dl [14 mmol/L]), check for ketones in your urine.
Recheck your blood glucose in one hour following treat-
ment. Contact your healthcare provider as needed.
Monitor BG level and for ketones closely. See Diabetic Ke-
toacidosis guidelines.
Problem Corrective Action
Blockage See Troubleshooting Pump Alarms,

Increased food/ Deliver a Correction bolus to lower
meal frequency your BG level.
Decreased physical Deliver a Correction bolus to lower
activity your BG level.
Illness/stress Deliver a Correction bolus to lower
your BG level.
Expired/ineffective Change the insulin, cartridge and
insulin infusion set.
Not enough insulin Deliver a Correction bolus to lower
given your BG level.
Empty cartridge Replace cartridge. If needed, deliver a
Correction bolus.
