Using the Pump - More Features

Extended Bolus

Some meals release glucose into the bloodstream slowly.

The extended bolus is designed to deliver the bolus of

insulin over this extended period. The extended bolus

can be used when you eat a high protein or high fat

meal, when you eat over a prolonged period (such as at

a banquet), or if you have gastroparesis.

NOTE: Once you press Deliver to begin delivering an

extended bolus, the pump will wait until the next “3

minute” interval (for example 12:00, 12:03, 12:06, etc.).

All of your programmed meal bolus settings (bolus type

[Grams - Carb or Units - Insulin], maximum bolus and

increment settings - see Meal Bolus in Using the Pump -

Basics starting on page 44) will be used in the extended

bolus as well.

Warning: To use this feature, you will need to de-

termine the length of time it takes your body to be-

gin using these types of meals as blood glucose. Talk

to your healthcare provider before attempting to use

this feature.

When an extended bolus is in use, page

2 of the home screen will show that it is

active.
